Job Search Related Information - Fraud - False Statements
Tempting though it may be to exaggerate your achievements or make false statements of any kind when applying for jobs (CV, application forms or cover letters and at interview), it would be wise to refrain from doing so. The consequences can be dire. You may even end up behind bars, if convicted of fraud.
Fraud is the act of deceiving people with false claims for the purpose of obtaining money or property. Employers base their offer of a job and remuneration on the information applicants provide about their qualifications and experience. If that information is subsequently found to be inaccurate, exaggerated or false, then not only is the integrity of the applicant seriously compromised, but the employer will, also, have grounds to dismiss the employee and report the matter to the authorities for prosecution for fraud.
Remember that employers now engage third parties to carry out background checks to verify information provided by applicants. Make sure your claims are factual and verifiable.
